Default 4x4 Cos Clutch fork question

The clutch fork on my 4x4 Cos had a little rubbery bit in the end of it where the cable attaches. It looks a bit out of shape and would like to replace it. Then started wondering if it is even mean't to be there or has someone put it in to compensate for stretched cable in the past. So question is - does cable go straight into metal keyhole shaped hole or is there something between the two.
Thanks David

Surely someone has replaced the clutch on their 4x4 and can answer this question.
Thanks again

was fitted from new but don't need to be there, like you said they go out of shape and usually get binned when new clutch or cable fitted
