Default Sapph 4x4 front hub nuts

3 years ago my car failed the MOT on play in the left front wheel bearing. After checking I found the hub nut was loose and after tightening the play was gone. I also found out the front hub nuts need to be knocked into a small hole (difficult to explain) to prevent them from coming loose.

Now this year the car failed again on play in the right front wheel bearing. I checked the nut and it was knocked in, so the nut didn't move this time. But after tightening the nut further the play was gone again. But if the nut didn't come loose, was the play from wear in the bearing?

Is it common on the 4x4 that this happens? Or did the previous owner not tighten both nuts correctly? Or should I be worried that the right front bearing is going to fail within a short time now?

Not sure, but I know what you mean by the 'notch' on the driveshaft stub.

I've not torqued mine up yet, I need to borrow a torque wrench off someone good for up to 300Nm for an hour.....

I had a worn hub recently, which caused considerable play.
I had it repaired by an engineer on a laith (draaibank).
