Default Sierra 2wd 1989 stereo placement

Hello

I'm thinking of moving my stereo to the bottom equaliser section so I can put 3 gauges there in it's place. But the equalizer panel is smaller than ISO DIN so the stereo cage won't fit, let alone the stereo it's self!

Any ideas/experience of a way round this without having to cut the dash to fit the stereo in?

I have my Alpine head unit in the lower opening, the cage fits in exactly the same as the upper slot.
