Default 4x4 Sapphire Cosworth won't start??

Hi All, hoping somebody might be able to offer some advice please.....

Went to the car after a week sitting in the garage and after trying to start it, it just won't fire up.
The battery seems to be fine (although I do disconnect it when parking the car for a few days), the fuel pump primes when turning the key, I hear a few clicks which go off (that I assume are relays), then the engine just cranks away?!? The car is fitted with a key fob immobiliser which functions fine as you wouldn't even get the car to make any progress without the LEDs going out. I did look at the crank sensor which looks covered in oil, but depending on what other threads you read some say that it won't be this at fault if the engine cranks??? Any help would be appreciated as it's never not started....

Thanks in advance

check the basics first, do you have fuel & spark? cps is normally a prime suspect, but it could be phase sensor too

The fact the pump primes shows the CPS input to be good.

You need to check the ignition side...

Default sierra

fuel at rail
spark
cam timing correct
half decent compression..

as above phase sensor, connections to coil-would check alarm to be sure
also pull plug caps out in case all flooded with oil-although it would still start but miss with load

Thanks all for the help and advice. Went to try and start it again, noticed that what I assume is an earthing wire (connected on the bonnet) was loose, reconnected it, heard an electrical whirring noise and the car started perfectly! Tried again a little while later and it was fine...thank god it wasn't anything difficult or expensive to fix...cheers again!
