Imo people worry to much about this, if you had like a volts difference then yes, but there is very minimal difference there.

As said that is probably due to high resistance on the supply, it's would be interesting to see what the voltage is at the ECU?

After cleaning the battery post connector on the positive side and cleaned the wires. I went through a bridge yesterday and the battery light was still glowing ever so slighty with the head lights on. Ive got some wire now so I will put the wire in from the battery to the alternator and try that.

I don't think it will make any difference, the light illuminates due to unequal power on either side of the bulb, most likely due to resistance, as said.

Took my saff out for its first spin for ages and it died after ten mins, batt dead.left it for 30 mins and started again so I put a meter across batt.no charge from alt as about 12.1 and dropping.batt had recovered over the half hr but was dropping rapidly again.
Turned off car and checked dash lights, no batt light on.

Just got it home and checked the push on wire on alt for connection and it was pushed onto the alt terminal.

I then took it off and earthed it direct and dash light came on, what's gone in alternator

Regulator. ????

You have a bad connection, that or there is a break down on the terminal inside the unit, this is assuming it is connected to the correct terminal to start with?

Revving hard enough will do the same thing.

Are you 100% sure it's not the other dash lights illuminating through the battery light window? Mines does it and it looks like the battery light is on very faintly.

i spent ages fault finding, cleaning terminals, changing and rewireing my alternator because my battery lamp glowed slightly when my lights where on.
i found recently after changing my clocks it was light leaking through from the main cluster.
there is a foam gasket in the cluster for all the warning lamps which distorts and lets light through

Ive still got a bit of voltage drop at the battery compared to the back of the alternator. I was just gonna try putting a piece of wiring in to see if I cam get rid of the voltage drop

I don't want to harp on about it! But as I mentioned before take a look at the loom where it meets the chassis rail after the alternator, put the meter on and wiggle the loom at this point to see if the joint that I mentioned in my first reply has deteriorated, might be why the light is flickering while driving because of that soldered joint moving with the vibration,
A auto electrician found this on mine the joint is where the gauge of wire is stepped up in size from alternator to battery it is just a strait soldered joint with a bit of clear heat shrink over it.
