Sapphire Cosworth value
There was quite a lot of opinions recently about a 2wd Sapphire Cosworth advertised on E-bay being overpriced. What is the difference between a good ,well specced 3 door that nobody thinks is overpriced at £12- 16k and a Sapphire with all the same engine ,suspension, brakes, wheels plus rust free immaculate bodywork? In my opinion GOOD Sapphire Cosworths are worth a lot more than they are getting,
What other 4 door saloon which when properly modified and looked after that ( talking about mine) has the same performance as a new twin-turbo Porsche can you buy for £6- iok? Mine has an agreed value for Insurance of £18k which is still less than it would cost to buy another one and modify it up to what it is now!
There are fewer and fewer GOOD ones left and the value of them must surely start to rise?

Yours looks lovely.
I think nice saffs should demand 8/9k, loads of dreamers advertising there dogs on ebay for top money because they seen a minter for sale at the same money. If its the moonstone one you are talking about it isnt near anything near that, few rusty bits in the pics and the front end isn't even the same colour.
I think 3 doors will always demand more money than a saff. Just my opinion of course.

It was recently set-up at Motorsports Developments in Blackpool and it goes like a rocket!! I had a go with a 2013 twin turbo 520bhp Porsche and he was flat out from about 50mph up to about 150mph and I was on his tail all the way!! That is a benchmark of how well it goes as far as i am concerned!!

You have a good point, most Cosworth engined projects are from either written off or rusted out Sapphires. As I said there are fewer and fewer GOOD ones left. I hate it when I see the dog rough ones selling for peanuts! They must start to increase in value soon for ones like mine.

Rod, values and what a car really sells at are two different things, i wouldn't give you 35k for your car , not a dig i just wouldn't , I'd buy a Porsche even if yours would eat most cars outhere

Always going to be arguements about this, it's pretty pointless really as it's not something you can really influence, it is what it is.
Saphs will obviously go up in value, that's a no brainer really. just the same if i have a 1L metro with 500 miles on the clock, it would be worth more now than it would be 10 years ago. That's not even taking into account the indirect effect inflation has as well.
Insurance valuations are largely BS and not applicablein terms of resale value IMO.

Pucker looking car fella I love a saph they have stood the test of time with regards to looks IMO
So many times I see a decent well speced sapphire with asking price around 10-12 grand and people comment things like 'it's only a sapphire' etc etc
Try buying one and starting from scratch to get to 500+ horse with all the right bits, it would cost 3x 10 grand

Sapphire Values
I agree with you on the 3 door snobbery, one that has an engine bay etc like mine would be making silly money! For me though it is just personal preference, the 3 door has never been of interest to me, I think a low Sapphire with decent wheels and big brakes looks so mean! After 20 years of owning mine I still get a buzz every time I drive it and it always attracts lots of admiration wherever I take it.

That said if Saphs keep getting broken at the rate they are, this will only increase the value of the remainders.

No snobbery from me, I like Sapphire Cosworths just as much as 3 Door Cosworths.
Not had an Escort Cosworth yet, one day tho.
"Cosworth" as a hobby has highs and lows, but values are steady for all.
500s rise in value, then 3 Doors, then 2wd Sapphires, then 4wd Sapphires, all pull each other up value wise. Escorts ride somewhere within steadily.
More that get broken keep others on the road, hence values increase.
At least we all share the same "passion".

Escorts are shit driving things compared to any Sierra.
If I ever decide to sell my car and it's the spec it is now I'd want well over £15K. It either sells for that or it gets put to a more standard spec and I'll sell it for a less.
