Got Golds on mine, and they work great. Especially after fitting helper springs (which I think all coilovers should run).
Didn't mod the rear mounting points, but did fit a strut brace, and all is still well a year down the line.

Imo there not good as our roads are utter crap. Great on a track but for a road car you can't beat koni's and good quality springs.
Found mine far too harsh and noisy on gaz coilovers. Didn't have anymods to top or bottom but from what ive seen since the bottom arms need strengthening as all the rear end weight is on that bracket were as the standard spring assists the weight.
Best mod for a 3dr is a rear strut brace.

You could spec coilover to 'feel' exactly the same as Konis/springs if you wanted. The problem is people buy relatively cheap coilovers that are inferior to a good shock/spring setup then wonder why they feel crap.

Coilovers can be easily specced to whatever stiffness you like. Makes no sense saying they're all unsuitable for road use. You can have them even softer than standard if you like!

Fitted Leda coilovers back in 1999 never had a problem no mods to car etc. Had then re-sealed a couple of times & modded by Black Art. If you are having probs you either have cheap coillovers or the ones you have are not correctly specced. I except they would be difficult to Spec if you like your car to wollow like a whale in a storm or handle like a bucket of shite & many owners have there cars like that.

Have been running coil overs on my car for the past eight years with 'touch wood' no issues, no strengthening or strut braces but had been advised to fit braces had a set of avo's before and now have black art design, I can see why you don't think they are good for road use, no matter what ones you have they all seem rock hard to me fine for a nice smooth race track surface but as for Britain's roads
