Default Fuel tank fitting help!
Fit a new fuel tank to the car and im struggling to get it to all line up

Is there any particular way to fit these things??

Any info or tips would be appreciated as im rapidly losing heart in this rebuild

What can't you get to line up? Mine just has 2 bolts spare wheel side and the strap on drivers side. Make sure the filler neck is not stopping it going right up in position

I put a longer bolt in for the fuel tank strap and wound the strap up this way. I had to bend the metal a bit to get the bolt to go in.

The strap is about 2 inchs away from the bolt fixing point its like the fuel tank is sitting to low or something.

Have you tried jacking the tank up so it goes into position.

Yeah been doing that but theres such a big gap where the strap falls short of fixing point

Have you tried to wiggle the tank about. I know I struggled to fit my tank but I got it to fit in the end.

Got tank in but struggling to hook up strap the gap is massive!

And now i have to drop the tank again as i forgot to plug in the connector to sender unit

Now i cant get the filler neck in situ properly

Your not having a good time are you. On my saff the captive nut was fooked so mine had a bolt through where the captive nut is. The strap was defo tight to bolt up though.

Just keep going mate. I had all the same issues when I did mine inc the large gap to the strap. Just get it all square and it will pull up!

I put a long bolt in mine but it fell out about 70mph and i thought my car had blown up the noise of the strap dragging along the road, insted i bough some studding from BnQ and put some nuts on and nipped it all up tight

Now I seen the pic I remember I had the same problem when rebuilding my car. I just used a longer bolt
