Default Using and exhaust cam as an inlet cam...?

Can you use a yb exhaust cam as an inlet cam?
I no I can time it ok - with key 180degrees out
But - what about the oil grooves? exh cams are plain, inlets have grooves
& I assume this is for a reason.
Is it possible to have these grooved into the journals?

I seen this with the cams too would be interesting to know why they are that way, as if it was a heat (causing friction) thing you would think I would be the exhaust side hmm...
