Borg Warner spooling
I am thinking of upgrading to a small twin scroll Borg Warner and wondered how it might compare on spool up with a t34?
I have seen the smallest on goes up to 440bhp max so it would be that or maybe the next?
I am going to get Mark Shead to fit vipec first and then upgrade the turbo.
My BMW 1m engine is twin turbo and has really fast spool up, I would like to get closer to that. I have not seen any supercharger conversions, any thoughts.....
My yb is in my 4x4 pug 205. I believe I will need a big tooth box to handle the torque.

I will book the vipec with you as soon as my drive shafts are back from full rebuild with new cvs. Will Rod build my loom?

If that one Mark has mentioned out spools a T34 I'd be well happy with that, then you've also got the option of 500 bhp too
Just my thoughts , but it's your car and funds . So i 'll keep shut now

I think the k&n might be too small so that might not help plus it is running l8 so wonder if Mark can do better with the vipec on it.
The 500 bhp is tempting though! I think it is in the mid to high 300s now so should be epic with more as it feels pretty quick now with only the 205 pug shell to lob up the road.

if you've got a off the shelf chip on l8, you'll get a much better drive with a live map on vipec and possibly a cam change.
so dont jump the gun just yet with the BW turbo, get mark to live map the t34 on the new ecu - you'll be surprised on how much difference a live map makes

That's the sort of thing I need to hear, I don't want to spend a load of cash and not see the benefit, after all 500 bhp needs a good fuel system, brakes, gearbox, diffs etc....it is not just a new turbo.
I would rather have 400 and brilliant response than 500 laggy bhp

You could opt for a 6258 which is two sizes down from the 7670 and should do do 400 hp. Its only available in single scroll t3 though. Would certainly be interesting to see but to be fair marks probably right. The 7064 should give you what you want with ease. And still amazing spool

I think I will follow whatever Mark suggests but I do like the thought of super fast spool up. The car is fast enough with 300+ bhp but the thought of 500 in the 205 shell sounds like good fun to me, my friend has a chipped R8 V10 with 575 bhp and that feels super quick, would be nice to show that a clean set of pipes.....

Wahay!! I've lost my Virginity!!
If you are looking at a 7064 I strongly suggest you also consider the 7163.
I am about to go on the waiting list for a 7163.
Smaller B1 frame turbo so should be easier to install and internal gate Twin Scroll T4 0.80 hot side.. Main benefit is it is the first of the BW turbos (if not the first one of the first) to have mixed flow turbines. So instead of just being radial flow of exhaust gases they turn the exhaust flow in the housing and have a degree of axial turbone flow as well.
Talk is they flow very well and are very responsive for the size wheels they run.
I just need to get the software to tune my Pectel T2 and will be waiting for it to arrive to start plumpint it all up

Hi mark I have a t34.63 on my engine and was looking for a different turbo as I don't like the lag since fitting the larger housing. My head is standard with bd14 inlet and bottom end is 200 block longstudded cosworth racing forged pistons with valve cutouts. Would this 7064 suit my spec engine? Also would you map it on weber l6 Ecu or would different management be needed?
Thanks Billly

Forgive the thread resurrection but I`m thinking of going EFR7163 internal gate for circa 500bhp ish.
I`ve read spool is fantastic on these and are slightly smaller than 7064 and 7670?
I`m a little worried about torque delivery though as my car only weighs 730kgs with me and fluids with 205 section tyres. At the moment it`s on a 3076r and the more gentle torque tip in suits the car but I do want more low down power.
With the GT30 I`m travelling a little faster when the boost hits so traction is "just" manageable. I wonder whether the car would be a bit undrive-able with the BW turbo?
I know you can map round this but if you`re mapping out some lower rpm torque is it worth swapping??

I think the less spiky boost / power / torque would be better for traction. Depending on ecu you might be able to limit the torque in the lower gears or just try it an invest in a traction control if it is hard work. I have a g reddy boost controller that I am not using if the engine mapper thought it might be of use.
