Default Aircon for Sapph wanted

Hi Chaps

I need a bit of advice with fitting an aircon to my non aircon sapph model please.

I have a 91 formally J reg 1.8 Chasseur now 2 liter OHC standard and would like to fit a complete aircon system.

What parts would i need to get to do this installation and where is the best place to buy via freight option?

I have been reading up a few threads on PF and there is some modifications required to do on the bulkhead on fitting the airbox.

What is best?

Cheers

find a granada from your neck of the woods with the air con option and use the parts from there

if it's a dohc it will all swap over directly other than the front rad which will need some spacers and longer bolts but other than that, everyhting swaps over, including the air box and everything

you just need to sort out some wires on the blower motor that are diferent

Thanks Dojj.

I had a look on the web. Granada's still hold their value here. What model year were the aircons introduced on the Granada? Finding a dead one is going to be tough, any other alternatives I can use from the UK if i dont get lucky?

For what it's going to cost you to post its going to be just as cheap to get the stuff out there

Any Granada from 89 till about 94 used the same dohc engine so you can use any of those a donors

They had a small facelift in 90 as well as 92 but mechanically they are the same, it's all in the electrics

The firewall/bulkhead is different from aircon to non aircon Sapphires?

Can you not have a aftermarket stuff fitted locally?

Thanks Dojj. Will look out for those models.

No Paul. I even struggel to even get parts for my sapph from Ford SA. I always have to contact scrap yards. The oulets dont do sierra's and sapphires anymore. I'll have to do some serious hunting to locate differant parts to fit everything myself.

Cheers

Its been almost 2 years and now I'm in the process of retrofitting my aircon to my sapph. I got it from a donor 2.0 efi.

I've got all the parts now just having hassle replacing the Electro stat and the vacuum valve on the evaporator. I have an aftermarket valve that requires to cut the housing to fit, but if I can find or purchase an original replacement that would be first prize. As for the electro stat its a 4 pole electronic unit to stop the evaporator from icing up and switches the compressor off.

Any ideas where I can purchase these 2 parts from in UK. Does UK ford still hold these parts?

When I got some time ill post some pics.

Cheers

This would be the donor car. I've repaired it and its looking good at the moment. I've stripped all the aircon bits off of it and reassembled the cream one

My sliver sapphire in the making of a factory fitted aircon.

Its painted black now with a coat of primer. Next weekend ill take some updated photos and add to the thread of the slow progress.

Today I fitted the compressor and pulley's so that's in. I'm also refurbishing the evaporator box/chamber, but need the parts.

Will post some pics later of what my Sapph looks like.

Cheers
