Default Fuel pump runs on

2.1 zvh turbo with cosworth L6 management ..
Hi guys ive got a really strange one here ..for some reason my fuel pump has started running constantly when ignition is on before starting ..and very weirdly wont go in gear when this happens the other day I put a new ecu relay in and that cured it and it would go in gear fine ..But I went to go on a test drive i barely got off the drive and it cutout completely no ignitiion lights at all I found that the yellow 60amp fuse had blown
So fitted new one but now have same problem again fuel pump constantly runs and car wont go in gear when this happens it also causes the fuel regualater to screem ..ive even dissconnected the cps sensor stil no difference.. Its strange cos I had a problem with
The lights which caused a relay on the fuse board to go since then ive had this problem..??

sounds like a wiring issue to me...... check the thick wires that leave the fuse first imo, 60 amps is not to be messed with. I think you will find the feed to the starter, alternator or something on that wire, besides the basics, (lights etc)

I should imagine you have a sticky fuel pump relay, try 'flicking' it when it's on and see if the pump stops.

Although it in no ways effects the gear selection, so that is something specific to your car, I should think.

The fuel pump nor any other component on the car I can think of would draws near 60A (I am assuming it's a ERST or FRST?)

Also look at the gear lincage. It would be funny as hell if the wires were tangled up in there..... from my point of view, not sure you would agree tho

Found the problem with the 60amp fuse blowing ..it was some wires that go down next to the alternater ..the alternater pulley was rubbing against the wires causing a short ..so sorted them ..have checked all other wires including near the gear
linkedge and its fine no short circuit..but stil have the problem with the fuel pump running on and not pulsing I have changed the ecu and
fuel pump relays twice it work for a while then plays up again also when it does play up the fuel regulater makes a screeming noise which it doesent do when it pulses b4 starting??? Comfused

have you got a third ecu? maybe the short has damaged the ecu's output and thats why its running on all the time...

EDIT don't use another ecu!! try your ecu in another car to see if it does the same. If it does then the ecu is damaged, otherwise the wiring still has a fault. That could lead to another damaged ecu if you just plug it in and go

Thanks william think thats gona b the next thing to try is the ecu ...its weird cos I started it last nite and the pump was fine and it run fine. then I started it a few hours later and it didnt want to start when it did start It ran abit rough and really ran rich which is strange cos its been running really well when it does run
The only thing I touched between good running then the bad running was the wires that shorted out on the alternater which were only for the fans and they fixed and fine now .. Its a nitemare..lol
