Default cosworth block bores

guy's at what bore stage is a cosworth 200 block not really good to long stud and run big power as im sort of playing with the idea of building an engine on the side to run my t4 and hart inlet with and then when it's built just slot it in my saph

and also looking through my engine rebuild reciepts for my saph it has .1mm oversize pistons which sound's like nothing would this be right

thanks damien

Never heard of 0.1 over sized, usually 0.25, 0.5 or 1.0mm I wouldnt worry about taking a block to 0.25 over size, but if you are going the the whole hog with wet liners it doesn't matter as it will be bored right out before the liners put in.

goin by the .1 id say is suppose to 1.0mm,
well damo my block cracked down the middle of the bore and it was bored 1mm ,
but plenty of people have never had any problems boring that far out,
luck of the draw mate,
it could be on std bore and still fuckin crack

the worst thing is there is no way of really checking the bore without taking the head of but as said above i'll be building the engine to run the t4 on the side so i might put my saphs engine in the mk2 then

If the power is never going over the 500 hp mark i dont think 1mm over size is a prob but what you have to remember is the block is on its last life then so if any trouble or when it wears out it will then need linering?

it all depends on what needs doing to it to get it where you want it,ie if it needs to be machined for new pistons long studding etc then i wouldnt use a 1mm oversize block to begin with..

Any other bore size is nothing to worry about at all..

cheers danny

You can make a roller bearing t4 very nice and usable on the road and actually an engine that is near std still does work well its just not many people know what to do..

Id go long stud bottom end with near std cr ratio like 8.0.1 or 8.1 even higher is ok(a memeber on here has a set of ideal pistons for sale?)with just a mildly ported head(25mm in and 24.5 ex) one of my spec inlet cams (280.433)with correct timing and with a good inlet plenum atleast a 4x4 with spacer but preferably a hart inlet and 83lb siemens and you would have an awesome t4 powered road car..

It would be very drivable and a lot less laggy than people may think..

The mapping is obviously very important but iv done the same conversion a few times and seen 1 bar of boost by 3.7k and 2.2 bar by 4.4k and with 450 lb ft and over 500 hp its a nice conversion..

Any help or info needed mate just pm..

cheers danny
