Default Urgent help please - Cossie running problems. Help help!

Evening all,

Just about come to the end of my teather tonight.

A few weeks ago, I got an intermittent running fault with the car. Problem with this as you are all aware is that such a fault you can struggle to find.... until it packs in, which it has now!! It was litterally a case of parking the car up one night running fine, coming out in the morning with the fault - which now remains.

So you can start the car, but it runs almost like its on 3 or even 2 cylinders. It coughs, splutters and backfires through in let and exhaust, rev counter goes crazy, seems to loose ignition and then regains ignition. Car will not rev and will not drive.

As this is currently my daily, I ordered a sensor kit from MSD and took this as the opportunity to change them as a possible cause.

Coolant sensor (blue) - made no difference
ACT (black - MSD approved but not OEM) - no difference
Phase sensor (correctly gapped) - no difference
Crank position sensor (correctly gapped) - no difference

Changed the group A coil - no difference.
Confirmed spark at all 4 plugs/leads

I though this could be an ISCS valve issue ( I havent got a spare to rule out) Engine stalls immediately when sensor plug removed, where as I thought it should just drop the revs a little?

Please help!!

Cheers

I never get why people change all the sensors!

In your case I would look toward the MAP sensor, first check the reference hose is connected properly and it is not split.

ISCV will never cause an issue like this, it merely opens to allow air to bypass the throttle.

Morning,

Thanks guys,
I changed the sensors because I had them 'on the shelf' - im using it as my daily and understand that these are prone to failure and can cause problems. I havent changed them in my ownership so didnt think it would hurt - in the long term, it could save me another breakdown lol!

Have another map sensor to try so will try that this morning.

Will keep you all informed!!

Cheers

Sounds like your Engine loom has a prob. Try moving the engine loom around while the car is running listening for a splutter or move the loom around a bit then try to start it.

It's prob around the inlet manifold where the loom bends over it.

If your car is a 4x4 you could try checking the plugs on the bulkhead.

Is it a 4x4? If yes you have 3 plugs above the cam cover that cause problems if 2wd there's no connectors.
