Default fitting 4x4 vented calipers/discs to 2wd

Are they a direct swap?!

Or does anything need modifying/changing to fit?!

fronts dont fit you need a 12mm spacer for the calipers as the off set is wrong
rears are a direct fit

I presume you mean the rears?
If so they are a straight bolt on, i've done it to my 3 Door a really good mod it stops you cooking your rear brakes out on track.

To fit the 4wd discs and calipers to the 2wd cossie you need to do the following

Unbolt your 2wd discs and calipers
Fit the 4wd discs and calipers
Bleed
Replace wheels
Drive

Because it was so easy to cook the rear brakes, I had my old 2wd discs glowing and that was giving it some stick on the open road let alone on a track.
Since changing to the 4x4 vented ones i've never over heated them even on track.

I did this swap way back in 93 on my 3 door so my memory is a little vague

I got the bits from a garage somewhere on the harrow road in west London who chcked his little ford microfiche thing and said they were the same part

Ok Dojj,

My 2WD dust covers are FUBAR, might be safer to try and find a set of 4x4 ones just in case ?

Cut them off if you want to remove them as you need to remove the hub as they are booted through the centre
Only 4 bolts to hold the hub in place but the shaft won't come out without undoing the big centre nut so it's up to you

Not sure you can get the plates anymore

I'm in the process of recoating and building up my spare beam so isn't a prob for me. So is it actually better to run without them then?! Won't bother if they increase heat temps

There's no real point in them to be fair they aren't dust covers as they are on the wrong side to stop brake dust going on the wheels.
They are splash guards to prevent water going on the calipers and disc's but aren't really that effective anyway.
Unless you're going for a concours original underneath i'd just bin them off.

2wd and 4wd are different shape.. As said 4wd are almost flat, these do have a different part no. But do generally do good money .. There is a good second hand set on the bay at £60 with 2 days left .. These will take 90-£100

Can't see them on there?! So if I did go without is it a good idea to shim them out 1mm to make up for them not being tree?!

You could do or even shim it thicker to give you abit more track.
Although I didn't replace mine with any shims and didn't notice any difference.

Half tempted not to bother now, easy enought to get a sheet of stainless and cut it to shape to get the correct track or slightly wider as Rich said!!

Am I right in saying that you can just change the 2wd caliper mounting bracket for the 4x4 one ?

I thought that the actual caliper was the same

Nope the caliper is actually wider to accept the thicker vented disc.

this picture will show you the different widths of the disc and caliper

the black lines indicate the 2wd solid disc

the red lines indicate the wider 4wd vented disc and the wider caliper carrier to fit over the top and the wider caliper you will need to fit over the wider disc

the purple line is the back plate and everything is all the same as the extra width goes the other way

the 2wd disc is 10mm thick
the 4wd disc is 20mm thick so you need to use the wider caliper and carrier
they all bolt on exactly the same

i'm sure i posted this before but i was scuppered by the famous "server is busy" signal
