Default Engine repairs

I'm going to remove the engine from my car Monday to inspect the bottom end as I think it's spun a shell. If it has what will I need to buy to repair it?

What car is it?! If you can do a compression test as if the compression has dropped then it'll be worth doing the rings as well as the shells. Also worth looking at the pump as to work out why it may have spun a shell ie loss of oil pressure etc.

If you just do the shells then it'll be new shells, thrust bearings, if crank is damaged then a grind or at best a polish. New con rod bolts, sump gasket set.

Then whatever else yiu decide to do ie rings, would mean honing the bores then if the heads off if anything needs doing etc

Ignore what car must be a cossie if it's in here

Also how many miles has the engine done etc?! If it's high mileage would be worth doing a full rebuild to freshen it all up!!

Well I removed the engine and took the sump off and couldn't see anything wrong with it I took the engine to builders Saturday and had confirmation this morning that I'd cracked 2 pistons luckily nothing else is damaged. He's checked all the head and everything is fine. He said I'm very lucky as he has seen rods hanging out of blocks because of cracked pistons

if your taking the engine apart then its silly not to do a rebuild of the whole bottom end

make it nice and fresh

i'd check the timing/fuel etc before running it properly again, as cracked pistons rarely happen for no reason.
