Default Abs ecu query

Abs light has been on in the car for a while, after some research here and testing the resistance of sensors, bridging float sensor, checking continuity between pins 9 and 10............Opened up the abs ecu and found scorch marks on the pcb. Just wondering what would have caused this? Don't want to plug another ecu in and have the same thing happen again.
