Default Oil pressure

I've used the search but can't find an answer that will satisfy me completely...

What psi should i be getting on my cossie? just had a racetech gauge fitted and i'm a bit scared now.

I use BP Visco 7000 5w40 (i just can't easily find 10w50 here in Portugal) and have a HP oil pump.

When warm I'm reading:
15 lb/sq" at idle
25 lb/sq" at 2000 rpm
40 lb/sq" at full throttle.

The oil is not new and i'll be getting it changed this week. Are these values normal or in someway ok?

Thanks

It's supposed to be an High Pressure pump...
Am I getting this readings because of the 5w40 and the fact that it's not brand new oil?

When i had my old pressure gauge i remember it reading 60 psi on load (this was some time ago) but i don't recall what grade oil i was using...

15psi is low at idle, mine is 30/35psi

Cold start about 60psi
Hot idle around 30/35psi
Hot running around 50psi

Standard pump with 10/40 oil

Thats using a Racetech gauge as well

ford say they should have 1.8bar at 850rpm and 2.4bar at 2000rpm when up to temp (1.8 bar is about 26 psi / 2.4 bar is about 35 psi)

Mines a touch lower than Steves, 28psi on hot idle ( oil light flickers), and about 55-60 from cold. It was 5psi better all round on new oil and 15 PSI sounds very poor on idle change the oil and maybe cross reference another gauge. If the gauges are correct and oil is good maybe budget for an oil pump sooner rather than later?

I have my pressure sender on the line To the turbo. The turbo is dodgy and i'm getting a puff of blue smoke, could this cause an oil pressure drop? I notice that the oil pressure goes down from 40psi To 25psi when i floor it.

Ok, just got it into my head... I really need a new pump!

I haven't checked it yet but is it possible to change the pump without removing the engine?

My pump is a Hi pressure OHC pump with the cossie cover. This doesn't have anything to do with it does it? I was thinking of buying another one, reface the plate, and screw it back on the pump or am i just being silly and eventually do the same mistake again?

If it turns out to be the pump I would change it for a genuine one m8.

oil pressure dropping when you floor it mate is a sign of worn main bearings,

does the engine rumble when you blip the throttle?

What do you mean by "blip" the throttle? quick "slap" on the throttle?

I thought i had a small missfire at full boost today when i floored it in 3rd to check oil pressure. Thought it could be because i didn't have enough fuel on the tank or the fact i didn't check the spark plug gap when i raised the boost a few days ago.

Other than that the engine just feels very healthy and noise (tappets) free.

either mate would make the bearing rumble, you just need to get a few revs on the engine(prefreably enough to make the oil pressure drop after the initial rise when you increase the revs)

with a HP pump i get 5 bar at cold start (about 73psi off the top of my head?) and about 40-45psi warm idle.

The bearings, pump and overall recondition was made about 15.000 miles ago.
The turbo just got new bearings last week but i know I need a new shaft. It smokes a bit but nothing too serious.

Today I disconnected the turbo oil feed and put a plug on the line and disconnected the wastegate actuator.
On Idle, I immediately got about 65psi on fresh 20w50 Lucas Oil at 40şC but I didn't rev it just to play safe.

What should i be reading with the oil line disconnected?
Could it be that the pump doesn't flow enough oil to feed the turbo?
Could this be the turbo's fault?
Should i put an inline restrictor?

Why are you changing the viscosity of you oil so dramatically? From 5w40 to 20w50 you will see a difference in pressure and would say this is why you saw an increase to 65psi today

I use millers 10w50 and get
90psi cold start
35psi hot idle
roughly 50psi at 2000rpm
and 70psi high revs when up to temp

with only 15psi at idel I'd be hoping that the gauge was under reading!

Sorry, forgot to mention that the oil only made a 5psi difference in the overall readings so it is completely irrelevant.

I only got the 65psi reading after the disconnected turbo oil line and was getting 30 at the time with tle oil line connected.

So, connecting the turbo oil line made a 30psi (2bar) difference in the overall pressure.

Does anyone know how much it should read WITHOUT the turbo oil line connected on Idle?

i cant see the turbo oil line making a difference to the reading unless your turbo is absolutley pissing oil out of the seals

Thanks for all the input

It really seems to be the Oil Pump... I'll start working on that

Even if it was, the pump would struggle to keep the pressure up. Only the oil wastegate port is able to control the max amount of oil pressure in the system. Does this make any sense?
