Question Sierra & Sapphire Cosworth Still in Demand By Thieves?

These cars back in the 90's seemed to be very popular to be stolen..
Is this still the case now? Any stories of recently stolen ones? Do they attract attention?
I'm looking for a sapphire cosworth but dont want to be paranoid every time i leave it.

Don't think I would leave mine lying around, the part prices at the moment leave then open for stripping and ebaying, but saying that have not heard of any stolen for ages but probably most are locked away. I wouldn't sleep if mine wasn't in a locked garage. But then I might be being paranoid

when they were new they were nicked to do armed robberies, nowadays they are nicked for parts, as the cars are now getting older and the manufacturer no longer makes or stocks vital components for these cars parts on the black market fetch money,

even genuine owners break/scrap their own cars because they are worth more in bits as opposed to selling the car in one piece.

imo they are not cars that can be left out in the open un-attended, they are toys that should be used for shows, meets and excursions only, definately not daily drivers to be parked in the street or lowly car parks as it won't take long for them to get swiped

don't mean to paint a grim picture but just being realistic

Just the engine, box, and interior will get you around 2 grand. Add the other parts too, and you can quickly see why they would be attractive to thieves.
I know of a member on here that has his garage broken into, the car damaged by them gaining entry to it, and the garage door being half removed before they gave up when the immobiliser kicked in, and left it on his drive.

Until they simply tow it away as most people will not bat an eyelid @ a stickered up tow truck pulling up and lifting the car onto the flatbed, even with the alarm going off.

Had that happen to someone @ work with an Escos, they jacked the back up on a spec, unbolted the front prop from the diff and towed it away. All we could find when we got there was the car going round the corner on said spec-lift truck and 4 prop bolts on the floor where the car had sat.

I wouldnt leave any classic ford anywhere these days even includes the lesser models.
Just have the best security you can afford on it and try to leave it as safe as you can at all times!

Exactly what he ^^ says, it does not matter what security you have, it simply cannot prevent someone physically removing the car, especially with "hiabs" being more commenly used.

They are a toy/luxury to be shown and enjoyed at weekends etc, they are certainly not everyday cars that you leave on the street.

Just do a search on here and the amount of "stolen threads" will confirm what all of us have said!

There are people who have had them taken from garages with disc locks etc fitted.

It's not because thiefs want them to drive/joy ride like when they were new, they are specifically targeted to be stripped for there parts, again as said.

I never leave mine anywhere, the only place I feel safe leaving it is at shows and even they arn't without there problems!

You would be better off using it as a weekend toy, there getting rarer and rarer, so part prices will keep on pushing up and so there more likely to be nicked for parts

D1on if you want one then get one mate, you only live once and don't get to come back and have another bash at it. Be sensible where you leave it and have some good security.

Someone could burgle your house but you don't worry about living in one

Mine is locked up at work when practical, but sat outside if need be. it will always be a car that attracts attention, both welcome and unwelcome, but at the end of the day, its a car and is used as such.
alarm, immobiliser, king lead disconnected, and left on full lock. if they still manage to swipe it, so be it. if you are always scared of it going missing, you would never use and enjoy it

My view entirely. I never leave my S1 unattended anywhere and she has to live in a garage that's armed to the hilt. There was an aborted theft attempt in 1999 from my m&d's garage where they went in through the roof but made so much noise they disturbed the neighbours. That was the ONLY reason I never lost the car. After that you could say I beefed up security a tad....and freely admit that I am paranoid about it. Had the garage security installed at our new house before I even moved the car there.

May seem OTT to some, but I've worked fucking hard for what I've got and I'm not having any thieving dirty no good stinking shitcunt take what I've grafted for. No fucking way.

i've parked mine up in the city centre and gone shopping - got all the alarms and locks etc - i used to think it's only a car but having spent a small fortune my views have altered slightly.

Depends where you live, I wouldn't be overly concerned about leaving my car unattended in Aberdeen (maybe in some areas possibly) but on the whole I'd be happy enough.
As said they get stolen and broken for parts now a days, who in their right mind would commit a serious crime and hedge their bets on the thing not breaking down!

I used my last saph for 12 years as a everyday car , I used it for everything shopping ( lakeside, bluewater , asda ect ) going to work ( on woolich ) and even doing boot fairs it was also parked out on the street for most of that In s London & it had a disc lock and cat 1 alarm on it and no one ever touched it , and 1 night somebody went up my road and broke into every ford in my road including my 2ltr saph parked infront of mine and my dads kitted up escort van & didn't even touch mine , so it just depends on wrong place wrong time no point worrying about it if they really want any car they will take it all ya can do is put things on it to slow them down cos they don't want to hang around , and I'm as paranoid as everybody else

All you can do is try and keep it secure as you can, alarms, immobilesers, garges, cheeky cut off switches, wheels on lock with disc lock, trackers, mobile phones hidden somewhere with sim card tracker on it (cheap version of tracker but it works! and you can see where it is).
All of these things will stop someone from stealing it, but if they want it that bad, they will get it and have it stripped and dumped before you even wake up!
Very Sad but true, all we can do is protect/insure our cars as much as we can and just hope they see the protection and don't bother trying and go back to there council estates empty handed.
But it should'nt affect owning and enjoying our cars to there full extent

lol Yes mate I was talking bout yrs! You still having trouble then? Mind you, yrs is a bit more noticeable than others due to the colour! lol Touch wood I've not had any unwanted interest in mine, but I am so paranoid about it. Always drive the long way home, don't use the same route too often etc. Silly maybe, but after 18 months rebuilding it I don't want some pikey having it away.
