saff cossie door mirrors
Hi people does the colour coded part of the door mirrors come off if so how easy are they to come off.
Some coonnnt has pinched my drivers side door glass.Im sure it hasnt just fell out cause it was there when i come in from work last nite.I came to the car this morning and the fookin thing is missing.
I will try and get a door mirror complete if i can and swap either the mirror over or the colour coded part.
Thanks

Non heated is crap, especially when it's on the driver's side
The colour coded part comes off easy enough - remove the glass (but some scrote has saved you the effort already), and you'll see four or five pegs coming through the housing - pull out the plastic centre of the pegs that spreads them out (like screws in rawl plugs), then push the pegs to detach the colour part from the mirror housing.

the little pegs are made of rubber, so you will need a very needle nosed set of pliers to get to the awkward ones
they are in each corner, pulled them out, remember to keep them safe, pop the mirror cover off, job jobbed
there is a small slot under the mirror casing that you used to click the mirror glass into place when you get a replacement, heated ones are ace in the winter/wet weather

Thanks people.I would understand if the car was a fiesta or a mondeo but not a sierra. by the looks of things they have damaged the motor part of the mirror too.Dojj ive seen the slot under the mirror.I will have a look on ebay and get a complete mirror bought.
The security light on the front of my house stopped working a few weeks back. Ive been to busy with getting my car back on the road.
Ive seen the 4 plugs that hold the mirror casing on.
Thanks for your help people...

The rear of the glass has a rotating locking ring, which you lock via the little slot
Poke a slim screwdriver into the slot so the blade is 90 degrees to the glass and lever it either left or right and it will unclip the mirror backing from the housing
If the motors have been pulled too much though they tend to strip the plastic adjusters which means a new unit or dismantling a spare for the job
It is very easy once you have done it once so don't fret

the one you are watching on ebay though, make sure the spring is tight on the flip section
lots of them sag over time due to the springs getting knocked about and even though they are designed to bounce back, once the spring stretches beyond it's normal rate it loses it's elasticity and thus you get the sag
if your mirror isn't sagging though and you just need the innards, they are fairly easily swapable as the motors are screwed into place on the little housing, one motor moved the mirror up/down and the other moves it side to side (there are only 2 motors and they simply wind in/out and when things break it's normally the little plastic lugs that have the teeth on them that get striped)
post up a pic of the damaged one and i'll walk you through if you like

the bit the mirror connects to is broken mate so you need a complete unit
simple enough to unscrew from the other mirror but it's the wiring that's going to be the tricky bit as i can't remember if it was push or soldered to the sierra units, the later mirrors are all push fit clips that are easy to strip down
you can also clearly see the little prongs that hold the cover to the case in the right of the picture, top and bottom, with their little rubber bung things to spread them open and also on the left upper in the last picture, just above the wiring loom
easiest thing to do is to strip down the mirror with the 4 screws out and see how it's wired up, removing the rear cover gives you virtually nor access as it's just a cover over the top

Right thanks Dojj even if i have to cut the wires and solder them on to the other motors off the.other mirror.
Im still pissed off about my mirror the coonts. When i win the mirror on ebay and it comes i will strip them down and make a good one.
So are the mirror glass really easy to get off.

the mirror glass is easy to get off once you get the hnag of it
on the back of the mirror there is a round platic circle with 4 points on it
these locate into the coresponding holes in the mirror housing but there is a round locking ring which you turn a few mm to lock everything into place via the hole underneath
when they have removed the mirror, they have pulled the round locking ring off the housing so you can't just stick another mirror onto it as one of the adjusters is still left in the pic but the up/down one has gone with the ring because it's missing
let me see if i can find a pic to show you

@ the mirror with bands.Glenn be carefull that dosnt come out whilst driving mate and go down the door otherwise you will be more pissed off.If your lucky you may even get one in white with the loom still attached so just swap it over in the door. One can only hope
Another thing if you do get one with a broken glass, just by sticking a halford one over the top will work.It will still heat through and be hardly noticeable for now like.
