Default 4x4 Cosworth against 2WD Cosworth (comparison)

There might be some discussion considering this, but I decided to start dedicated thread for this. I'd like to rear some experiences from ppl who have driven both 4x4 and 2WD Cosworths, is there big differences in their handling etc.? Which feels faster as stock, e.g. which is faster around track as stock? And most importantly, which you prefer?

I've had my 4x4 Cosworth for 6 months and I was amazed by the amount of grip it had compared to RWD and FWD cars I've driven before, but now my VC is broken and its like RWD.

4x4 feels more sloppy, understeers more,2wd less grip and easy to get in to trouble,if you want to go fast 4x4 if you want to have full and loose your lisence 2wd

cheers stu

had both 4x4 and 2wd and i and loved both but 4x4 understeed when pushed hard on track ,now with 3dr the turn in is great even when pushing on on track and oversteer when exiting bends been made 100% better with quaife lsd fitted.I much prefer 2wd suits my driving style much better.

There was an article in 'Top Car' mag about 20 years back with Mark Lovell comparing a tuned Power Engineering 2wd with a 4x4 ( think they were RS2400s )

I like 4x4.... But there's just something special with 2wd... I love the sheer scare and respect for it and the acceleration just feels more staggering in 2wd... Anyone else feel this.?

I have 370bhp 4x4 and have only ever driven a standard 2wd so cant really compare do agree with the under steer though had a few scary moments on roundabout. But 4wd bk in the 90s is.nothing like the 4wd systems of now days.i took my mates who for a blast other day and it felt impossible to loose control off bit boring really nothing like a cossy never knowing if ur going to make it out the corner in one piece

Assuming you compare two rather similar cars then this is what I think:
A 2wd is more fun to drive, in the dry it's a little bit faster, but it's also more demanding.
A 4wd is less fun, but once the rain drops start falling it's so much faster and easier.

As to being faster: a 2wd maybe faster in a straight line. On a racing track I am not sure it's faster - even in perfect dry conditions.
I have driven fast 4wd Sierra's on track days and the thing I remember is: Ideal line for cornering? O yeah, that's where everybody else is when I am overtaking them.

I went 2wd. Its my first cosworth. Ever since passing my test in 1994, I always wanted one. The scary side of the 2wd was what made me buy one. I run Eagle F1s on mine and its pretty grippy, but I like the feeling that you just know its gonna bite back if you dont give it 100% respect and consentration But then thats the appeal for me.

I found my 4x4 really nice and planted, when driving swiftly, but if you pushed it, it was like a bukerooing donkey, would understeer and just be nasty when pushed very hard.
currently converting to RWD, never driven a RWD one before, hope i like it.

RWD = Crashing
4WD = Less chance of crashing

4x4 ok upto 350 ish bhp
2wd better after that sort of power , gearbox and diff alot stronger
I dislike the 4x4 cosworth drive train with a passion
But thats just my opinion
My 400 odd bhp rwd saph keeps me on my toes , and sounds awsome with its big tooth quaife box , just need a quaife diff now
I also run 215 40 17 on front
235 40 17 on rear ..grips awsome
