Default New turbo

What would be a good turbo for this spec
Standard head with bd14 inlet cam
200block with standard comp valve cut pistons
Grey injectors
500 cooler etc

I was wanting 400bhp and thinking of a gt series turbo. Possibly a gt2871 or a gt30?

Anyone run either of these and what rpm do they come on boost

I've got a t34.48 at the minute but I don't want anymore lag than I got now so didn't fancy a .63

I think you will stuggle to find any turbo that will give 400 bhp and less lag than a T34.48.

as what Neil said, you dont want a bigger turbo then!

a t34.48 is not laggy, have you had your set up, you got a boost gauge?

I'm running greens currently on standard t34.48 peaking 27psi holding 23. Mine comes on hard just under 4k

What rpm does a gt30 come on boost?

I would look at getting your car set up as a .48 should come in well before 4K, my gt30.71 came in around 3K and was flat out before 4k.

I think my t34 is on the way out as in getting oil coming out of the Amal valve. I take it it must be picking up out of the compressor side as the oil couldn't come from the actuator.

You ideally want some head work at that level

I have std engine, RS500 IC, greens. I spotted a T34 turbo for sale. Its garrett new T3/4 with these specs: 50/54 60ar/0,63 700€. Should it be good choice to acquire 330-350 bhp with reasonable boost, if I happen to buy it. Seems to be same specs as Escorts T34?

t34 0.48 will struggle to get to 400bhp - needs the 0.63 exh housing to make it - even then it will only last 12-18 months at the boost required for that power. You will spend 5-600 quid everytime on a rebuild, every 12-18 months

Not worth it imo, you will be better goin for a bigger turbo that can handle 400bhp easily.

Sounds like you need something like a GT30 with a .63 housing

Mine runs a T34.63, 200 block, 7:8:1 Mahle's with valve cut outs, Light Blues, standard head etc. and runs a shade under 400 with similar torque. Awesome setup and not laggy at all, perfect drivers package IMO
