Too hot?
I have a more accurate water temp. gauge in my car for safety. It reads 98 degrees before the fans kick in. It switches off at about 94 degrees. But it just takes forever to bring the temperature down a few degrees... When im going 30 mph and faster theres no problem, the temperature is steady on 85 degrees then. Gauge sender is in std. position in the head.
Is it harmful to the engine that the temperature is close to 100 degrees alot of the time when driving in the city?
Setup:
Std. radiator
Std. fans
MSD uprated fan switch
MSD 82 degree thermostat
RS500 intercooler
Swirlpot

Most new cars run around 100. Engines only usualy hurt pistons ect when they get upto 115 degree's plus. My sapph has a autronic and the temp sensor is on the rear of the head. Using the std rad switch it got upto 104 before fans turn on. I changed it so the autronic turns the fans on at 88 and shuts off at 80. No need for crapy old radiator switch.
Might pay to rewire the fans to make sure they have full voltage to drag the air through the radiator.
Hope some of that helps.

I would look at the fans, the fans do a good job although they do pull alot of power, mine cools down quite quickly once running. The troubles comes with the standard switch as this keeps the fans on for to long (Which of course doesn't apply in your case), plus you can get other issues like the stat (86 degrees) and the switch 77 degrees fighting with each other where it's trying to cool further than it should.

No, not really, as I say the standard fans do the job perfectly well, but the wiring and poor fan switch, need addressing, namely rewiring and an "Uprated" fan switch.
As standard the fans comes on to early and turn off to late, the latter is what causes melted fuses etc, it was never designed correctly in the first place and most likely uses the same loom from a lesser model.
This, along with the fuel pump loom are two chronic weak points on them.

Ok, maybe i should do a rewiring first and see how that goes. But can it really do that much? I already have the uprated fan switch and thermostat installed.
