getting hot on boost? if it has happened to u pleasepost advise
after fitting a t34,30,psi grays and a new chip. the car temp just shoots up as i put my foot down. header tank pressurises up allso..
think im on standard head bolts and was told it had a new grp A gasket when i got the car last year.
any idias lads? its a 4x4 saph so was thinking stat? or lifting head.
ran car on t3 28psi and greens for 8 months with no bother. till turbo shit its self!
car soon cools down with heaters on and fans on and at normal off boost speeds dose not get hot or pressurise the header tank

sounds like a head gasket mate. Don't see how the thermostat would be the root of the problem, especially as the header tank is pressurising after giving a boot full. But for the price of the thermostat compared to the hassle of taking the head off, might be worth a shot.

I also reckon it's headgasket. Sounds very similar to my issue right now. I also have a small oily residue forming around the header tank cap/hole. Thankfully for me there's no sign of water in the oil yet. Am just waiting for better weather to change it, and taking it easy in the meantime.
I only get a temp issue when I give it some stick, otherwise it drives and acts normally. I do have the heater on permanently while driving though just as a precaution.

I had the same problem with my 4x4 saff, whenever i i put foot down up went temp gauge & then boiled over. Took it to garage & was stripped down to find head gasket had gone had new one fitted & it did the same thing it turned out to be the rad but luckily it didn't do head gasket this time, put new rad on & has been singing & dancing ever since.

Very much doubt its the thermostat, To rule this out, remove it! it is only there to allow the water warm up by circulating around the engine, then opens and allows the hot water to cool in via the radiator.
if your thermostat was stuck closed, it would heat up on normal driving.
Personally i think, with the boost your running, that your head gasket is passing under the load and heat involved.
keep us informed what the outcome is.

3 possible issues broadly speaking
1) There is a map issue or other issue which is causing it to generate too much heat (e.g ignition retarded or running too lean)
2) The head gasket (or a cracked head) is allowing hot gasses to pass into the water.
Possible causes could be incorrectly tightened head bolts or pattern head bolts used.
3) The cooling system simply isnt upto the job when on boost, pressure might just be literally due to the temps increasing, they are linked (pv=nrt)
I would try the following:
Check your AFR's on boost.
Visual inspection of cooling system to ensure that the radiator is in good order etc, and flush it all through.
Replace head gasket and when doing so skim the head and fit new bolts that are genuine OEM ones, or uprated stud types (some people dislike ARP head studs on the YB, although personally I have had no problems with them)

thanks for all the advice lads
the car had a pro alloy rad fitted 12 months ago with new fans and harness, pluss a compleat set of samco's along with a 63mm core pro ally intercooler.
i have ordered the short stud arp kit and a new grp A head gasket. will se if that sorts it out.
thanks again for all the advise and help

Testing the future
could also be a cracked block. happens a lot, especially if people don't clean all of the oil out of the head bolt holes and then stick a bolt down and tighten it up so the oil in the bottom of the hole has nowhere to go under massive pressure excpet crack the block to relieve it. whilst you have the head off, check very carefully for this.

I had it once before, replaced head gasket and it didnt cure it, pressure test revealed a cracked head. Replaced the head and gasket and again, didnt cure it . Pressure test revealed a cracked cylinder liner, engineers assured me a re line would cure it. Rebuilt the full engine it and for 1200 miles it was sweet, then at 150 it blew coolant all over the windscreen and temp flew up
I sold the car and ended up with a Corsa
