Type 9 to replace t5?
Hi, as iv explained in an earlier post my t5 box has given up in my cossie, does anyone no if it's possible as a cheap, short term thing to get me to Santa pod and back in august to put a type 9 in place of the t5 Borg warner. They're alot easier to get hold of and alot cheaper! I no it may not last too long but itl give me time to save up for a recon on my original box! Just wondering what would need to be changed in regards to Clutch, flywheel etc and prop? Thanx. Ed

It can be done, but as said the torque, or rather sudden rush of it will likely kill it first time with decent boost.
I used one on a n/a pinto of 180bhp, and tbh that did not have any trouble in 4 years of abuse, but no sudden torque rush.
Don't bank on a build costing Ł250-Ł300, depends entirely on what's wrong, the parts cost for mine was nearly that alone, ended up costing me Ł580.

Cheers for the replies, yea had quotes from a few places in Preston and just from what I told them they said it could be 4-500 pound iv won one cheap on eBay gonna pick it up on Monday night but 2nd gear is aparrently sometimes hard to find. This shud get me to pod and back until I can afford a recon on my other box. Was wondering about trying to make a good one out of the 2 coz 2nd was fine in my original one?

This is strange, iv come to my car tonight intending to take the box out ready to fit new one tomorro night and after leaving it my lockup over weekend untouched moved it around expecting it to kick out of gear and it seems 100% fine now, I can giv it full throttle in 1st now and no problems, before it threw it out of gear as soon as I let the clutch up. Any ideas? Shud I take the box out anyway to put my second hand one in :S
