T5 Borg warner rebuild difficulty level!!?
Hi, hopefully I'm posting in the right place! it's a while since I last put anything here as iv not had any problems with my saph for a while (probably because it's not been on the road for a while!) however, yesterday I tried to set off and couldn't select 1st gear. After messing around a bit managed to get it in but whenever I tried to let the clutch up and move it kicked out of gear. Itl move very gently in 1st if I hold it in gear and all other gears are fine. Any ideas what could be at fault and has anyone any experience in stripping and rebuilding the t5 Borg warner box? if so is it a job I could possibly attempt to do myself? Iv just got loads of bits sorted on the car ready to take to santa pod beginning of august and now iv run out of funds this happens im a ford mechanic and have successfully strippe and rebuilt a zetec box before and wondered if the t5 is something I could attempt to fix or am I best sending it to the specialists. Does anyone reccomend any companies in the northwest to do this? And finally does anyone have a second hand t5 for sale? Thanx for your time! Ed

Never done it myself but you can check the work involved in the rebuild manual:

As boxes go they are not hard, if the 5th gear needs to come off the bearing can be simply cut off as it will likely be replaced anyway, this way it allows you to get a decent puller onto the 5th gear itself.

If you dont get it sorted, there,s a cosworth box specialist in Southport. G.e.a.r.s. http://www.gears.tv/

It does sound like it could be a bent selector fork, but if it was ok before it's going to be ok now, not being used will not bend it, brute force does that, if it is that.
