I'm new and in Australia ! Help please !
Thanks for tolerating a newbie folks.
I've bought a 3 dr Cossie, and i want to find out everything I can about it.
I bought it from a friend while over in the UK and he's owned it for 18 years.
Its been garaged for almost all those years
Its leaving the UK in the next week bound for Australia.
How do I go about finding its past?
I've been through the registry on various sites without any response. Can anyone help me here please.
Its rego is / was D767PVW and I believe it was owned by Ford themselves for several years.
I cant seem to find out anything previous to about 1994.
My friend never bothered to check out anything as it was an investment/ bad debt deal.
Can you help please ?
thanks folks

^ you can try what Tabetha has said
i dont hold out much hope if the car has had the same owner for 18 years and been garaged for a long time
what are you intentions with the car once it reaches OZ land? tune it or keep it standard? There's a few aussies on this site with 3dr's

Thanks folks,
As for my intentions, I want to have some fun !. I hav'nt decided on what will happen as I dont know if the rumours that the car is chipped and modded to 400 bhp are true until it goes on the dyno.
I'll keep you informed.

Hi again Keith. I would reccomend putting it on the LF Performance dyno to see how it goes. They did all the wiring install on mine and got the base map up and running.
Keep us updated mate.

I was amazed tonight ! Looking through the net and I found a reference to a report in Car Magazine, May 1987. A test report of a BMW M5 v Commodore V8 v Sierra Cossie v Merc.
Bugga me the pics of the Cossie are my car !!
I've found the magazine in a vintage mag shop in the States and bought a copy.
I feel like a kid in a candy shop.
I havn't read it all yet but thats what I'm off to do now.
Great day today !!
Cheers

looks good mate, i had a quote for ins while i was down there last year for mine and it came out at about 1000 bucks a year on limited mileage policy, but they priced it at 34000 Aus Dollars minimum so well worth the cost of taking with you, my brother also lives in Perth and works for Ford there, not sure what they got in the way of rollers and stuff though

I've had one quote so far, my insurance broker has been a friend for 24 years, and he's quoting $550 for $32,000 and 8000 kms per year.
He's trying to do a better deal.
Will keep you in the loop. Who does your bro work for, Centre, Midland, MacInnernies ?
I deal with MacInnernies for my Ford Territory every day drive.
Cheers

Looking at that engine bay , Id say there isnt anything at all there to suggest that car has 400hp mate .
Infact it looks totally standard , original T3 , yellow injectors , still got the recirculating dumpvalve in place , standard 2wd intercooler , no breather system .
Infact at the max it probably has a stage 1 270hp tune , if that being honest

Thats what I need to find out when it arrives.
I have the original newspaper advert that it was bought from 18 years ago which states" Super Chipped , 400 BHP engine, uprated suspension and brakes" but no way to confirm or disprove it until it arrives here !
To be perfectly honest I really hope it is bog standard, its far more collectable if it is.Thanks for the pointers though!
Cheers

Looks good Keith, I hope you find the info your looking for.
Don't forget to post some info on the car in the Sierra section of the Aussie Classic Ford forum, when you get it.

I'm in between a rock and a hard place at the moment
The guy I've bought the car off, has just returned from holiday in Greece with shingles!
He has had the car up on blocks so no one could steal it while he was away and the guys who are fitting the new fuel tank are too busy to do it !! I can't get it on its way, and I'm 13000 miles away.My dad ( 82 yrs old) has been on his doorstep ranting for me!
Oh well it will get here eventually.
Cheers from a much frustrated western Australian.

Thanks for the offers guys !
I will know better by the end of the week so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Apparently all it needs is the new fuel tank fitting and a final tune up so it may still happen soon.
Cheers

Don't know the exact amount but Customs & Quarantine will cost approx $800, then there is GST at 10% and I believe import duty is 5% but I'm yet to have those confirmed.
I'm looking all up at about $3800 for shipping and charges. Registration is about $500 per year, and I will have costs involved in making it comply to Australian standards.
It will still be almost half the price of buying one here anyway.
Cheers

Base it on 25% of purchase value and then shipping will cost Ł1000 guesstimate as i use 1 container each time which costs Ł1700.. compliance will cost you a minimum of $5000, rego & stamp duty etc so your looking atleast $10,000

Ps also have to do a roadworthy which you will more than likely have to replace your windscreen and also any other defects will need to be sorted before compliance can be given.

Where do you get this figure of $5000 for compliance?
A friend here just did a Reliant Scimitar for all up, half container and all charges , total $3100 .
Compliance seems to be side intrusion bars and child seat anchor point, engineers report is sorted as a friend is one of the approved inspectors.
Also the shipping company were the ones who said 5-6 weeks on the sea, and 2 weeks at Freo.
You have me worried now !!
Cheers

Compliance is about 5k last time i checked, that was a couple years ago mind you. Engeneer report is only sorted if the company doing the compliance uses him?
Brake lines also need doing, a change in the petrol nozzel, tyre plate, compliance plate, you also habe to get around the emmision side of things.
Car needs to be roadworthy also. So will need a new windscreen, tyres (maybe), brakes have to work 100% otherwise will fail roadworthy etc
Your mates car is a 1960's car so i beleive the rules are leniant and also import duties are cheaper

The list given to me this arvo is,
Child seat restraint to be fitted.
Door mirrors must not be convex, must be flat.
Immobiliser must be of an approved type.
The Engineer will do a 15 point check then it goes over the pits.
Anything they find, and I have been told it is the bog standard inspection that they carry out on every vehicle, import or not, will then have to be fixed.
It will fail as there will be no compliance plate.
After any needed repairs have been carried out it is re-inspected and if it passes an application for a compliance plate can be made.
That is the procedure in WA so it seems.
If it was post '89 then its a whole lot different.
I feel a bit more relaxed now !
Cheers

Well it looks as though I may have to wait more than I was lead to believe.
I was desperate to have it ready for the All Ford Day at Bassendean last weekend of October, but it seems the Gov and others will conspire against me and it will be mid November at the earliest.
If thats the case I will trailer it to the show.
Bugga
