Not in this country, but seem to remember in SA ?, you could get the 2.9i as std, though my memory could be failing me.
Now I'm thinking about it, wasn't there a 2.3 ghia version of the sapph for the uk market ?

Sierra's had exactly the same engine lineup as Cortinas, bar the sporting models, I am sure the 2.3 was only available in MK1 Ghia and GL models and was never carried over to the MK2 and so Saph's.

All Saphs so far as I know were four pots, shame as Ford could have done better!

Tabetha I think you may be thinking of the Peugeot sourced 2.3 Diesel which was also available in the Saph.

Other country's namely, Australia and SA had far better models than what we had such as the XR8 and XR6.

There was a Sapphire V6, but it was 4x4 - arguably could've been called the Sapphire XR4x4, but it's not - look for a Sapphire Ghia 4x4. That had the 2.9 Cologne.

You learn something new everyday, I knew there was a twinky 4x4 Saph.
