L6 ecu melted pins ???
Took out my ecu as ill be changing chip soon, what bothers me is that the 2 pins furthest from the white screw top and bottom (i believe pins 18 and 35)
are burnt and its also melted the connector on the loom
What are these pins used for? the diagram i saw says its connected to injector 1 and 4??
is it possible that it was damaged before i took the engine out or have i fooked it in the process... Bloody fool i am i forgot to disconnect the battery when i started pulling wires off

i had better go find somebody who can replace the pins, either that or replace the whole lot (more money grrr!)
Im still a bit stuck as some diagrams ive seen say that they are earth pins yet others say they are connected to injectors
.....confusion?

The ECU wont report any faults as it cannot diagnose high resistance on wires, only open circuits and CPS PS timing errors. please just replace the pins.

New pins for the loom connector: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/290321833191 - can replace them yourself in a few minutes.
If your ECU's also melted, L6's are cheap enough as no bugger wants them - they all want L8s

nice one dude, got those new pins on the way
managed to source an old cut about 2wd loom off my older brother for a tenner so gonna have the ecu plug off the end and re-do the 2 burnt pins
This will sort out my loom until i have enough to buy a new one, is ryan still doing them on here? any idea of the price?
The ECU itself looks ok, hasnt caused a dry solder joint or anything.. just has melted plastic from the loom plug around the pins BUT im taking no chances and will have the ECU replaced also
CHEERS for the help fellas

Cool beans! If you can, drop a tiny blob of solder on the crimped part to maintain a good connection and keep the moisture out.
As an aside, Stu, is it worth running an earth directly to the battery for the ECU? And when will you have new looms available on the website?
The 2 end ones, nearest the passenger window for want of a better description, are the ECU earths and arguably two of the most important wires on the ECU. They carry the injector current and the ground for the entire management system. When they cant pass current, everything slows down and starts to read wrong. It is very common on L1 and 6, less so on L8, and I have never seen it on P8.
