Default Gaz Gold Rear shocks loose 4x4

Probably a silly mistake somewhere...

Just found the knocking on the back of a mate of mine's 4x4, seems the gaz golds have a little play at the top and a tiny bit at the bottom. I put them on just as they came, do they need any extra bushes?

Cheers in advanced.

Hmm. Bugger. We got them cheap, brand new un-used from RS Breakers in Poole. Never occurred to me there was a difference. They were listed as 4x4.

the difference is the diameter of the bottom of the shock on the rear only iirc, and can be sorted by fitting shims which to be fair it does look like they are fitted on the pic

The part of the shock that fits into the hub is smaller in diameter on the 2wd one, but it's enough difference that it would be extremely obvious, ie if you were to fit 2wd ones into 4wd hubs you'd nearly be able to fit a pencil between the shock and hub body with the shock in the hub.
The rears are the same apart from on oe fit ones where the bottom eye/tube part is around 1/2" wider/longer on the 4wd shock, I would imagine all the shocks would be made "2wd" and supplied with a 1/4" spacer either side to be fitted where needed, of course the lower mount on the arms is 1/2" wider on the 4wd arms due to this.

Yup 2WD is exactly the same as 4x4 size wise. The spacers shown are there because the rear shock use rose joints.

There should be no play at all unless the spacers are incorrectly made?

Seems the top rose joins have got excessive play in them... Looks like a call to Gaz!
