3 door conversion
Hello guys. I've recently bought a 3 door sierra (originally 1.6l) which is a cosworth replica with a 2.8 efi in with cosworth looks I've also got a 2wd sapphire cosworth sitting in my yard with a rotten shell, will all the running gear swap straight over onto the 3 door shell as this was the plan when buying the 3 door. Any help, tips or advice will be very great fully appreciated and taken on board. Thanks in advance

ive been checking a few bits for doing this on mine, so far ive found that you will need to drill holes for the t5 gearbox mount, drill different holes for a cosworth brake servo/cylinder, and drill holes for the rear anti roll bar to fit, still checking more bits but thats all ive found so far that needs doing, minor bits

If you want to use a sapphy rear arb you will need to drill the holes, if you use the crappy/ineffective std 3 door cossie rear arb the slits and bolt hole are there in every mk1 shell, even 5 door hatch, as I did this on mine before fitting a rear arb that actually did something other than look pretty, ie I went to sapphy rear arb.
You can get the tranny mounted without drilling holes, by making a bespoke bracket/support, I am amazed though that there isn't enough room in the slot to turn it around 180 degrees and pull it rearwards, the mount that is to suit.

3 door
Thank for the info upto now guys. Regarding the arb is the arb easy enough to do i cant remember what the rear end even looks like will i just need make a slot and a bolt hole or is it 2 bolts holes or what? Also I take it that the gearbox mount is different from the 3 door to the sapphire or is it the car/shell its self? i could get a 3 door gearbox mount if needs be. thanks.

The 3 door mount is the same as 2wd sapphy apart from the 3 door being pressed tin as opposed to alloy on the 2wd sapphy.
The rear arb on the 3 door cos isn't worth having imo, it does next to nothing, I had a xr4i with the std 4i arb(rear) 10mm, went to 14mm cossie as direct fit, still a waste of space, made some brackets up and welded them to the car to fit a sapphy 2wd cos rear arb, a whole world of difference it made.
You just need 4mm flat steel, drill bits, drill and tap M8 do it in a good morning, easily done, with the correct clamps, they have a tang on one end that fits through the slot then a hole on the other end that is tightened down onto the bracket you made and welded to the car.
