Default Headgasket thickness

Does a metal multilayer head gasket actualy compress in size once bolted down ?

Reason i ask is that i want to replace mine with exactly what came out so measuring 1.3-1.4mm. do i look for one that size ?

A multi layer is likely to compress slightly, merely because the layers are bonded as such to each other.
