my hose which runs from the fuel tank to the fuel pump has seen better days
do ford still sell this part? if not best place to buy a replacement from?

You could indeed use that braided hose, personally I hate the stuff and consider in certain places it is dangerous such as this.
I use OPA around 1/10 the price, no steel braid, that isn't needed anyway, and the ability to check it's condition periodically, which you can't do with the braid, but it's your car, OPA will take anything you can throw at it and more.
