Please help with cossie missfire/hesitating/oil burning
Hi
Hoping that someone could shed some light to my cossie problem
long story, so bare with me please.
I am experiencing some troubles that I beleive could be related to rich running and/or burning oil.
But I can't identify the cause of the problem as I don't have enough experience to interpret the symptoms I get, and would love to get some views, before I take it all apart.
I have had some blue smoke from exhaust for some time
Especially when hot and left to idle, and if I rev it after a short time, it will puff a blue cloud. It has done this in a smaller scale for some time, but after a good trash with ALS, it really has got much much worse.
Now I am thinking the turbo is dead, but can't figure out if the symptoms is correct. Also it seems to use quite a bit of oil now.
I would be surprised if the problem is valve stem seals, as they have been changed within 2000 miles. (but could have been a bad set of course)
turbo hose to IC is dry
another trouble I am experiencing after this spirited drive, is when on 2/3 throttle comming on boost the car hesitates/misses just when the turbo begins to make boost. but it clears up when turbo begins to make more boost.
Full throttle from low revs, and it will miss at 2800-3000 rpm, and it will clear and pull great all the way to the top. It seems worst in 3rd and 4th gear.
If I drive it up through the revs with lighter trottle and no boost, it will not hesitate/miss
The plugs are black - seems a dry deposit on them, also on top of pistons, seems to be a thin dark grey deposit. Which I am guessing is symptom of excessive fuel.
So if anyone would do me the favour to give me some views on where to start, I would be grateful.
Of course turbo was my first thought, but how can that cause the hesitation/missfire and black plugs, when the hose to IC is stone dry?
It has no play in and out, but a bit of play up and down
Can it be the stem seals, and would that alone cause all these problems
Also wouldn't the top of pistons and plugs be more oily if steem seals?
4wd saph
T3 peaking at 2 bar....
MSD chip, ALS, CL, WS
just for info:
All sensors are fine when tested on my IAW monitor and it shows that
coolant temp rises normally
the TPS sweep is linear and -0.30 closed to 83 full throttle
phase and cps doesn't show any problems
map sensor is also reacting as it should (cruise, load etc.)
many thanks in advance for any help

As you rightly point out if the turbo to IC hose is bone dry then no oil has gone that way, from your descriptions I would still say stem seals, was the whole head reconditioned ?, these suffer seriously terribly from guide wear, which can still allow oil past even with new stem seals, can be knackered after as little as 40,000 miles as well.
If the plugs are black and you haven't been doing lots of short trips/cold starts etc then it's running rich, they certainly shouldn't be black a slightly darker brown than normal is understandable, but not black.
How many miles has the engine done ?

To the rescue again....
Well the engine has covered 85000 miles afaik, but definately had a bottom end rebuild 25000 miles ago - not sure what was done to the head at that time though.
It got new stem seals 2000 miles ago. It did at that time help with the blue smoke after cold startup. Nothing done to the head itself at back then (stem seals was replaced with head in place).
Now it doesn't seem to smoke on cold startup, but instead it smokes after it has idled for some time and you rev it a bit.
But it seems to have gone much much worse after a god trash - does it sound likely to be valve guides/or seals -to give in after a good trash?
yes the plugs are black - No short trips/cold starts
Could it be....that oil is leaking from valve guides or stem seals or turbo - covering the lambda in oil. So I end up with both rich running and blue smoke?
thanks

It is entirely possible that the lambda is dead now due to oil contamination, take it out to examine it, what oil are you using ?, as these yb lumps get some stick really I'd advise a 50 weight oil minimum, though ford handbook says 30!!

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
sounds like mine,i leave mine idling for 10-15 minutes, quick blip on th e throttle, big puff blue smoke, then fine after that.My inlet manifold is full of oil, turbo to IC is bone dry,it can only be stem seals. But i've only done about 5000 miles on a re-furbed head, and changed the stem seals(again) about 1500 miles ago.Was fine first of all,no smoke ,now same again. When you look into the ports( inlet and exhaust),you can see oil on the valve stem, and you can see it wet on the exhaust side on the carbon.Various people have looked at it,and given their opinion, the most feasable,in my opinion,it that because i have a HP oil pump,it is filling the head up with oil before it has chance to drain,,,,,,,therefore overwhelming the stem seals.
My plan is to wait till the winter, get another head, get it fully rebuilt, new valves stems, seals, the whole lot, then see what happens.

well i'm on std pump, so can't be that
I am so much hoping for turbo, but I think it can only be the stem seals or guides looking at the signs....
