Saff cossie 4x4 engine mounts.
Hi people
Whats the best way to replace these,is it easy to do with just loosening the engine mount nuts off and jack the engine up, or will i have to take the mounts off the engine to clear the engine mount studs?

I took the inlet manifold*, boost hoses etc off. I then supported the engine, removed the engine arms and swapped the mounts. Its not too hard to do once you give it a look over.
*I had an RS500 inlet running 8 injectors at the time. Its bigger than a normal 4x4 one so you may not have to take the inlet off.

The drivers side one like easy to do but the passenger side like a bit harder. I was gonna jack the car up then put the jack under the engine. Undo the mounts and swap them over. I take it i will have to take the mounts off the engine to get the clearence for the studs on the rubber engine mounts which bolt to the sub frame.

hi mate i just renewed mine as the originals were broken! i undid the centre nut and the two bolts on either side of mounts and jacked the engine up as high as it would go. i also removed the throttle body and inlet boost hose to throttle body to gain better access. luckily my mounts were in bits and fell out easily. i then fitted the collins mounts and dismantled them first so i could fit them without the centre bolts and then put centre nut and bolt through afterwards. was a bitch of a job even for a fully skilled mechanic but didnt take longer than 2 hours. hope that helps

i did mne last year , undone bolts both sides , jacked engine up , turbo side was easy only had to remove heatshield and loosen off the arm on the engine , inlet side was difficult , access to bolts for arm are difficult to get at because of the oil filter , i ended up hacksawing the old mount bolt on this side because it was afew mm away from having the clearance to get 'em out , the vibratech ones came undone and could be tightened up once in position which gives you the extra few mm required when fitting new ones .
not that good of an explanation but once you get under there you'll see what i mean .
things tend to rattle a bit on a 20 year old car with the vibratech mounts i've found but it feels better to drive .
cheers

Thanks for the info Gaz my mate said the passenger side is a bit harder. He said he lossened the oil filter housing off and moved it out of the way to gain accsess to the engine mounts bolts on the block.Im gonna have a go at doing it soon.
My mounts are vibra tech mounts too.

As said the right side is easy. defo with the oil filter arm. took mine off completely and didnt even loose any oil lol. then took out the 4 bolts going into the engine to completely get the mount leg out. just be careful of the wires at the back of the head rubbing up against the bulkhead though. good luck glenn mate.

I did my mounts today and they werent as hard as i thought they were gonna be. Both mounts were fooked. I did the osf bottom suspension arm first and i think it took me longer to replace the arm than it did to do the mounts. I noticed when i drove the car home that it felt like it was juddering as if it was misfiring when coming on boost or as if something wasnt lined up right. I did a few hard launches in my street and it seemed to be ok. Ive double checked that all pipes are connected and all connections are right. I will drive it tomorrow to make sure its ok.

Yeh there easy mate. The passenger side is harder to do but i thought it was gonna be harder than it was. Ive been out in the car again and the bad vibration/judder is in 4th gear doing 30mph and pulling away. I did it a few times and it only did a few times then seemed to get better. Has anyone experienced this before. I havent changed the gearbox mount just the engine mounts. I dont know if its me but the car seems different to drive.

Never had the juddering but it did make the car feel completely different to drive much more responsive and involving , you feel what the engine is doing as soon as you accelerate or back off .
Although i do have rattles which gets right on my wick coz it never did it b4 and at certain points in the rev range can't remember which point exactly it sort of resonates through the car .
I've not done the gearbox mount myself , many people said not to do coz it will not be nice to drive on the road with all of em done .
cheers gaz .
