other than having something drilled and tapped into my sump for a temp sensor ( which i dont really want to do), i have a magnetic sump plug so cant use and adaptor like i was planning to, so where else would be best to get a temp reading from?

i had the idea of using a 4x4 filter re-location arm sandwich with a sandwich plate for both pressure and temp, this be any good?

any other suggestions?

pressure can be taken from the relacation arm or where the standard pressure sensor is.

temp i have in my big wing, but its not ideal. i would like to have it where the standard pressure sensor is

Why don't you want to drill and tap the sump? Having to remove it I suppose

I'd have temp in the sump and pressure where the original sensor is. Oil in the sump is typically hotter than the gallery

you can put a sensor in the drain bung aswell with an adaptor.

Yes then ideally you'd use a thermocouple a few inches long

yeah i dont really want to remove it at the mo as we have only just got the engine back in

back to the drawing board for the temp sensor then

only mentioned the sandwich plate as i have it sitting at home doing sweet fa so thought id try see if i could get some use out of it

i did buy an adaptor for the drain plug but i bought a magnetic sump plug and i'm using that instead now, so need to find somewhere else to fit it

yeah you sensor is a little out of the way

i'm assuming the reading wont be as accurate to those given if the sensor was in the sump?

You can put it in the gallery where the oil pressure switches are mate, but it's all about getting the temp sensor into the flow of the oil, to get an accurate reading if you put it there. You'd need say a 3mm thermocouple, and put it around 2mm into the flow of the oil

The oil around the outer edges inside the sump will be COOLER, as aluminum is ace at heat transfer, when in the gallery it absorbs heat from surrounding metal.

The reading will be 100% accurate for the oil where the sensor is, as here it has already been squeezed by the pump and made contact with hot engine surfaces it will have picked up heat, part of the oils job.
Personally my fave place in in the sump, mine maintained for example 80C today when measured from the sump, which is the coolest I'd want to see, don't want it too cold.

just bin the magnetic sump plug lol and change your oil regularly then fit it in the middle of the sump plug thats how mine is
