Default GT30 sounds

On my old setup i a had an internally gated GT3076 with antisurge compressor housing.

On my new setup i have an externally gated GT3071 without antisurge.

I have noticed a huge difference in the sound level of the 2 turbos. The old one with antisurge sounded very loud and had a nice raw turbo sound under boost and during spool-up.

My new one you almost cant hear... Is it because of the antisurge housing? Im talking about a huge difference in sound!

Have anyone else noticed this?

This is what mine sounded like on the rollers. Excuse the microphone distortion as we were only using a camera phone. GT3071 internal gate with ported shroud/anti surge housing

This is in the car running 390 bhp

2.5/2.6 but we were restricted with the inlet and more importantly the guy who strapped it on the rollers and did the operating had no clue and was promptly sacked soon after my run!

It still runs 2.5 bar now but makes 480

The antisurge compressor housing makes it sound awesome compared to stadnard compressor housing.

Im trying to rack my brains to remember at what revs we had over 2 bar but cant sodding remember. Will have to call slim to see if he can rack his brains.

It is very responsive though for a big turbo

there both ported shrouds?

they work the same way.

fitting a Grp.A. filter would make it sound a bit louder if you dont already have one

I'm pretty sure the second one is the one Rich has, mine is that one too. The first type tends to be used on larger turbos (GT35 etc)

So does it sounds just as awesome as the other type? My old turbo had the other type, and it was a GT3076 one. It had an extreme turbo sound compared to one without anti surge.

The reason i wanna make sure is because im considering to buy a new housing with antisurge, and only the one with the holes drilled in is available for my current turbo (GT3071)

What a strange reason to choose a Turbo. Dont care if mine sounds like a bucket of spanners being shaken in a bathroom . Aint got time to think let alone listen when its on boost .
