Just my opinion, but the std cam causes valve/piston contact, so no way will you get away without pocketing the pistons on a BD16 cam.
I if doing it myself would likely use a decent set of new single springs, but would seek advice from the cam maker.

I've heard that you need to modify the head when fitting a 16 not for the springs for the actual cam as someone had fitted one and it failed within 10 miles
i am using a bd16 in my escort ,your pistons will need pocketing as well as use double valve springs i also had my valve spring seats machined so the springs do not become coil bound .
Yes James, you sell the Newmans springs which fit a standard head as you say,had to have my head machined to take the Iskys, wasn't a problem as the head was off for porting etc at the time.
James, going back to Brammers BD16 inlet cam,he will have to have cut outs in the pistons yes as I understand the case to be?Where as with an AB07 Ahmed inlet cam it is designed for engines without valve cut outs.
I am considering an AB07 exhaust cam for my car shortly.
After speaking to James i have completely had to re think the engine spec due to the levels at what the turbo will be working at so now i am looking at a BD16 and BD8 combination along with a long studded 200 bottom end with pocketed pistons - it will just take longer to do but.....
As i'm using a GT3076 i'm almost convinced that at higher revs the valves and pistons may touch.
If you are using a big turbocharger you will need to rev it to get the full potential so double springs are a very good idea
If you run the BD16 or BD16+ inlet with double springs is it fine to run the exhaust side with standard springs.
Also is the only difference between Newman springs and ISKY the diameter of the spring? i take it for ISKY you remove the standard valve spring seat and machine a seat within the head?
Yes Chris,u only need the inlet side if running a standard ex cam as far as I am aware, confirm with james though for sure.,mine has both though as I have the bd14 ex cam at the moment which is being replaced soon.
Double springs are advised when you want to start running to 8000rpm + regardless of the cam profile as you now have less time to shut the valve on every stroke.
