ST170 into Ford Sierra

Putting the engine in is the same for any rwd zetec, fit a sump, water rail etc lots are available and use cvh engine mounts and make up an exhaust, you also need to consider the power steering or lack of and the alternator.
You need to decide on the gearbox, t9 and mt75 will only except a 220mm clutch a t5 or hybrid mt75 will allow a 240mm one to be used then get a flywheel to suit, could also go Mazda probably.
The inlet manifold will not fit so a change to a plenum, throttle body's or carbs will be required, depending on which water rail is used you may need to gain some clearance at the rear of the engine, and fit a cosworth radiator. Only difference with the st170 over a standard zetec is if you wish to retain the vvt then the engine management has to be able to control it. If the car came with a carb fed engine and you go to fuel injection then the fuel tank will need replacing.

Hi mate thanks for the reply,
The reason I asked the question is because I bought one last month with an st170 engine already fitted, but unfortunately no history of who fitted it and what components have already been installed. I thinki it has an MT75 gearbox based on the where reverse is.
It's beginning to look like a bit of bodge, and the previous owner seems to know a lot less about it now I've bought it lol. I can't get it started at the moment, just about to check for spark this afternoon.
It's got twin 40s on it at the moment with an ME100 ecu. i'm planning to upgrade to an ME221 ecu and replace carbs with bike throttle bodies.
Probably a daft question, but why would I need to replace the tank for fuel injection, and what tank should I replace it with??
thanks in advance!

The carbs are a little small 45dcoe would be better and if staying with carbs check the vvt has been blanked off, If done on the cheap what flywheel and clutch has been fitted?
If you go fuel injection the car needs a fuel return if there is not one which I assume there will not be so the tank from a fuel injected sierra will be required.
Best to avoid bike throttle body's and get proper ones or go for a plenum.

Thanks, how can i tell which fuel tank I've got?
I can here the fuel pump start when I turn the ignition key.
I'm assuming the VVT has been blanked off as the connector there is plugged in and connected to the ME100 ecu. And I can't tell what flywheel and clutch I have.
Tried to start it today, but no luck, turns over but wont start, its getting petrol and has a spark

Hello, you're talking about me...
I've got it now in Rugby, I bought it off the bloke in Scotland (who sat on it for 6 months without running it apparently) who bought it off the bloke in Manchester.....
I don't supposed anyone has the contact details for the Manchester seller? I'm trying to understand whats already been done and to what standard, as whoever fitted the engine + other bits didn't make a note of whats been done
