Look on car builder solutions webbie.
They are threaded as std so presume someone has stripped it at some time.

Nothing is ever simple is it. I just hope you dont have to cut a bit of the chassic leg out to weld a nut in then patch/weld the hole back up.

Ive just been thinking. I could be wrong but can the front bumper be moved, and then but a nut in the box section where the bumper mounts sit and try and hole the nut in place(or try and weld it) so that you can mount the intercooler.like i said i could be wrong but its only a thought.

I've had this before. I pulled the rubber bumper mount out and dropped a bolt through the hole, then tighted it up with a nut against it, basically leaving a stud to hold bolt your cooler up to.

xr craig....what do you mean by bumper mount? cos i was thinking of taking front bumper off, but the hole seems quite far away from the end of the leg. so thought it would be awkward to ge a bolt down

Tabetha, the actual leg isnt threaded, it seems to be some kind of insert inside, well on my heap of shit it is!!!

my first thought was to weld a nut over the existing hole (external) it would look rough but will work. i will hopefully find a solution, esp with the help off ppl in here!

Can you not buy one of those retracting magnets, you know the ones that look like an old tv aerial but with a magnet on the end. Then attach a nut to the magnet feed it though the hole then put the bolt in which will b holding the intercooler. Ive got one of those magnets if You wanna lend it. Cause im only down the road from you. Ive also got a bendy long tool which has little claws on the end so this could also hold the nut whiste you put the bolt in.

The square sections fixed to the bumper, that slides in the front crossmember go past this rearmost hole, and putting a bolt in helps to prevent bumper theft, as a long bolt actually passes throught he hole in the square section after securing i/cooler(500 one)
The std fixing is a captive insert but very shallow one.
You could weld a small plate to the car after tapping the hole you make in it first, 3mm will be plenty thick enough to tighten up suffecinetly.

The rubber bit in the end of the leg mate. It was awkward admittedly but after a bit of messing about i managed it, then just held it with a spanner and tightened a nut onto it.

There's probably better ways to be honest but that was all i had to hand at the time and needed the car
