TEMP GAUGE SENDER WIRE & FUEL SMELL ISSUE
were is the temprature gauge sender wire on my 4x4 saph cossie i know its near the inlet plenum.
my gauge is reading V low ie(below) N so i am imagining its something to
do with the resistance to the gauge. O
R
M
also i somtimes get a slight wiff of fuel in the car especially when i open the air vents and turn the heating fans on, which leads me to think its coming around from the engine. i have ruled out the fuel pump as that is only a few months old
as usual many thanks for reading and replying to my latest cossie dillemas

does your fuel gauge read accurately?
if so then the problem is more than likely the temp sender, if not then the problem is with the voltage regulator in the gauge. the voltage regulator can be replaced but it would take some good soldering skills and a steady hand. the easiest thing would be to just replace the gauge itself, if that's the problem.
i would check the fuel lines to the fuel rail and the fuel pressure regulator for leaks. also check the injectors for leaks.

To check the temp gauge, just earth out the wire and see if it goes full scale, it should, if it does gauge is ok.
The fuel smell is a concern and you need to immediately look for leaks, whilst the engine is running and pump up to pressure.
My temp gauge fluctuates from day to day, sometimes low sometimes high, std sierra I think!!

will book the car in to get the fuel smell looked at looked at then.
a mechanic connected the gauge sender wire to the earth on the battery and the gauge went up near to the top and he said "well the gauge is fine"
i just need the exact location of the wire near the plenum so i can see if it has come of were ever it connects to.

Look on the alloy plate/bracket bit that attaches to the head under the plenum, at rear of head.
Here next to the CTS sensor for the ecm you will see the GOLD colour one for the gauge reading, just a single wire to it.
2wd ones are near the front on other side by turbo.
