I had lowering springs on my old sierra and every now and then going over a bad bump the drivers side would catch. My cossie ive got now. Its running standard suspension. I had 205/40R17 tyres on,they didnt catch. Ive got 215/40R17 on now and the drivers side front wheel catches every now and again too.

I had them on my sierra and after calculating it at the time to the original 205-50-R15 it should be 205-45-R16 for minimum difference.

Standard 205-50-R15:

50 % of 205mm = 10.25cm
2*PHI*R= 2*3.14*R(=7.5 inches*2.54cm + 10.25cm)= 184,00cm

205-45-R16:

45 % of 205mm = 9.23cm
2*PHI*R= 2*3.14*R(=8 inches*2.54cm + 9.23cm)= 185.57cm

185.57/184.00 * 100%= + 0.85% difference

215-40-R16:

40 % of 215mm = 8.6cm
2*PHI*R= 2*3.14*R(=8 inches*2.54cm + 8.6cm)= 181.62cm

181.62/184.00 * 100%= - 1.31% difference

Keep in mind that the difference to the original size tyre with the 205-45-R16 will get lesser and that of the 215-40-R15 will get more once the tires start to get worn out..
