Default Newbie & some advice!

Hi all

This is my first post. Im 33 years old, live in Milton Keynes and out of the 32 cars I have owned since 17 years old this is my second Ford! My First being a MK3 XR3i......great car!

Anyway I bought a Sierra Sapphire 1990 2.0i ghia last night. She needs some work but nothing major......i think!!

Question is what are the Sierra Sapphire 2.0i DOHC engines like? Im not familiar with them so its all new. She sounds rather loud, tapping sort of noise. Prev' owner (17yr old) used her for 2 years, did 29,000 miles and has not touched the engine so its time for a good service, although the plugs look tricky to get to due to a decent size air inlet with EFI written across, seems to want to hide the plugs!

good old engines but dont expect performance from it as you just aint going to get non tappy sound is fairly common to be honest but try and good oil change and see if that helps at all.

as for plugs i cant remember as its been a few years since we last had one of those (2000e)

So its an 8 valve, i thought it was 16 due to the size of the engine! The engine is kind of sideways if that makes any sense!! Is this due to it being rear wheel drive?

I have heard of the Pinto engine, was it used in the MK2 RS2000 Escort?

Ive owned a load of GTE Astra's, Pug 205 GTI's, Golf GTI's etc in the past and there engines seem to be 'frontwards!!'

What kind of MPG can I expect?

My old DOHC sounded like a washing machine full of spanners before I changed the oil. Hopefully yours is a similarly simple cure!
Great cars for the laughably small amount of money they go for these days.

There are a good engine mate. I had a sierra 2.0gt which had the same engine in. I had the car 3 years and it never missed a beat. It had 130.000 mile on it when i sold it. I always thought these were 125 bhp standard.

even 118bhp from what orion turbo has wrote sounds too much to me i thought it was about 108 like an xr3i........

looking in the back of the fords mags a 2.0 xr4x4 has 120 bhp and will do 119mph which take for ever to get to

like i said above thought they arent performance engine but they do take plenty of shit

Mine has 104,000 with no history....... But for £25 I cant complain! The lad wanted a bottle of Whiskey for it. Glennfiditch or somethig, anyway it cost £25. Took her for an MOT this morning. Failed on some corrosion on rear sill (£70 to get a plate welded) and 1 tyre being a 175/65/14 instead of 195/60/14. Everything works, all electric windows etc. Its a bit of fun being rear wheel drive
