Rear Brake Pressure Reducer
There is a valve underneeth my car that was leaking, im guessing its a reducing valve for the rear brakes.
The fluid seems to be weeping out of the rubber seal in the centre of it. Is there a way to overhaul them? Replace the rubber seal? Or is a new item needed?
Thanks
Bruce

Not an answer but, another question......
My valve is also leaking but taking into consideration the front brakes have been upgraded to 330mm disc etc, would I be ok just removing the alve all together? I know it wouldnt be such a great idea if I had standard front brakes with the fear of the arse trying to out brake the front but as the fronts been upgraded I figure the front will still be out braking the back....if any of that made sense??
ps sorry for semi hyjack
Stu.

Thats interesting, is this a common fault?
I would say its best having a reducing valve. I cant seem to see a % on mine. On other cars valves ive seen the rating of how much the pressure is reduced by. If you found out what the rating of the valve then you could have a better idea on if you could remove it or not.

I dont have a pic of the valve just now. It is positioned on the pipe going to the rear. Before the pipe spilts to go to either wheel. It runs next to a fuel pipe on the passangerside chassis rail. Above the ARB droplink. Its about 3inches long and 1 inch wide.

Ive heard of them causing grief for people before...dont suppose you've tried Ford have you? Suppose I could rip mine out and fit a proportioning valve inside the cabin...its gonna be a stripped out anyhows so would fit in with the theme.

You could try cleaning it up and refitting it to see if it still leaks. I think i remember someone saying a few years ago they used a pressure reducing valve from a fiesta (cant remember which mark) instead of the sapphire one (as it costs a fair bit). The fiesta one was alot smaller but he said the amount reduced was about the same.
Or if you can find out the amount it reduces im sure plenty of places would be able to sort you something out.
When i have rebuilt my sapphire i will be putting it in the ABS valve block as the pic shows.

LOL the chassis is far from rusty, but yeh the valve is very rusty. Alot worse than the one in the pic you posted.
Im going to take it apart soon, anyone know if you can get the rubber washer/o-ring?

Think i may have cured the leak. The two parts that the o-ring is betwen is actually one cast part. Ans there was a very small hole in mine, where the fluid was leaking out. So i just welded the groove up and i will get a new o-ring.
Hopefully this will work. Saves paying £50 for a new one.
