Default Saff 4x4 gearbox whine

Hi there all. Ive got a whining noise in first gear when im pulling away put the rest of the gears are ok. What causes the noise. Do you think if i change the gearbox oil it will make a difference. Or is the gearbox fooked.

make sure there is the correct oil in there first
it's specific for the mt75 and it's not the same as what ford now tell you it is

may just need a top up or new oil,if its fooked i have an mt75 from a 4x4 for sale

What grade of oil do u use in them. Can you use 75/90 semi synthetic. If not what is the special oil that people use then.

I used 75/90 synthetic stuff and the box whined so put ford stuff back in and it was fine again.

I cant remember m8 i know it's specific for the mt75.

Castrol FMT if I recall. Specifically for ford boxes.

It's available from ford I have a couple of bottles spare (not for sale). Its called

MT75 5-speed transmission oil, and that's exactly what it says on the bottle. White bottle blue print and writing DONT PUT ANYTHING ELSE in it.

Thanks very much people i will make a note of it and try and get some. Does anyone know which ones are the drain and filler hole.

erm drain is the lowest and fill its the highest. needs a torx bit if I remember right. It's the torx screw at about 1pm on a clock if your looking at the box from under the car towards the front.
