most early chips were copies of Group A rally cars, so yes, they squirt in extra fuel on over run to cool the pistons and valves etc, and of course this then gets ignited by the bloody hot turbo exhaust housing

isn't it when the exhaust is very hot and the unburnt fuel in there is igniting.

as said over fueling usually and normally sounds louder when exhaust is hotter.
when andy forrect remaps his scoobies you can get a pop and bang map or a normal one

Constant Rich(very rich) running causes bore wash and contaminated oil...

Running a bit rich after large periods of WOT when completey backed off the throttle is something different and perfectly safe

Mines used to spit flames for fun after Mark mapped but now only flames after a long period in 5th gear since Alan remapped it so it seems to be down to differnt mapping styles?

I think that a leaking exhaust used to cos some on my flames...they used to get so big that it was just crazy...

My old one used to pop and bang brilliant but it was over-fueling like fuck due to shagged chip and some cunt wound the regulator up bigtime previously, car was actually misfiring on way to ava to get set up with excess fuel

Thanks to AVA they sorted it out ,car ran brilliant and smooth and i was saving a small fortune on petrol

Most of the cars that flame a lot are helped out by a plug up the exhaust to make sure the fuel burns as it comes out.

also any exhaust leaks make it worse by letting in oxygen to add to the fuel and heat already there, completing the things needed for ignition
