1st to 2nd Gear Problem
I have got a 4x4 Saph Cosworth and have change the gearbox oil recently.
I used Silkolene 75w 90 gear oil and since then when the car is cold like overnight it is diffecult to get into 2nd gear from 1st gear it feels really notchy.
The other gears seem ok when cold, but when the gearbox gets warm the change from 1st to 2nd is better.
I never had this problem before I change the oil, I made sure that the oil is at the correct level also.
Any ideals?

MT75 specifies the use of an oil that was designed specifically for the gearbox - available from Ford or Coma if you want the equivelent.
If you use the wrong oil then the problem you have is then shown.
Its all to do with the synchros - they love the right oil and hate the wrong stuff

Best option for the MT gearbox is Dexron II/III ATF fluid. It is not what is recommend by Ford, but the gear change is smoother, better from cold, and have never had a problem, neither in my old 330bhp 4x4 Cos, nor in my current 4be. Other half's 2000e Saff with an MT75 in runs fine as well with it.
75W-90 oil is completely wrong for an MT 'box.

GEARBOX OIL
I HAVE CASTROL SMX S IN MY 4X4 GEARBOX BUT I HAVE BEEN TOLD TO USE DEX 2 OR 3 ATF FLUID THE RED STUFF WHICH IS ALSO FOR THE TRANSFER BOX AND PAS FLUID.
MINE HAS BEEN FINE BUT NOW THE COLDER WEATHER IS SETTING IN I THINK MINE IN 2ND ISN'T AS SLICK AS IT WAS IN THE WARMER WEATHER.I MAY CHANGE MINE TO DEX 2 OR 3 SOON.
LEE.
