Default Whats this plug for?

Decided to tidy up the wirning on my car today and while doing so i found this plug (see pictures). It was stuffed down behind the brake servo? Its quite long as you can see, it also reaches over beside the battery quite easily?

I take it its not important as everything works on the car?

Possibly the gearbox reversing light switch connector, do your reversing lights work?

if your car is a 4x4 that is the plug for the lambda sensor. all 4x4 cosworth looms had the connection but it wasn't used until they fitted the saph with the green top engine.
makes wiring easier if you decide to go closed loop from msd

the lambda sensor has is a three pin plug, triangular shape......

what you have there is the plug to the purge valve that controls the carbon canister, for emission purposes they were fitted to cat models.

the canister is fitted under the drivers wing.

the wiring is connected to the ecu, so the valve opens on command, the engine can burn off the gasses that have been caught in the canister while the engine was switched off.
the valve itself is connected to the inlet plenum via vaccum hosing.

My car is a 1991, so a non cat model, but the loom has been changed at some point, so i'm guessing thats why i have this plug?

My main concern was it was important - i didn't want anything to melt lol.

Thanks for solving the mystery Mr JTECHSAFF
