Default fuel pump rewire saff 4x4 ??

hi all, just got my saff back from MSD did an excellent job setting it up, feels so much better than EA setup. just got advisory of stu fuel pump giving 11.12v on idle and 10.25v on boost even though it didn,t affect the required fuel needed for the map he reccomended a rewire, my Q is how do you do it and is it straight forward? many thanks in advance.

I put in a new wire from the fuel pump relay in the car and run the wire down the passenger side of the car. Then through to the boot and though the floor to the pump. I drilled a hole in the spare wheel well and used that as an earth with a 10mm nut n bolt.

Default Pump wiring

Which is the fuel pump relay and how did you tap into it ??

Gonna try this myself.

You really need a fused live STRAIGHT from the battery pos to another relay by the pump, then use the old pump wiring to trigger the relay. This ensures that there is no other drain on the fuel pump wiring (such as crappy old fuse links and dodgy fuseboxes).

Like this....

BUT - I would keep the inertia switch in the OLD circuit!!

rewiring from the original fuel pump relay alone is a waste of time

I have a in-tank fuel pump (Walbro) on my Granny Cos 4x4 turbo.
Asked about rewiring on Escorts Cosworth forum, but they are silent.
Have no idea to choose the strong water&fuel-proof connector for the fuel pump and level sensor plate.

The relay is clipped to the side of the dash on the passenger side. There should be 2 yellow relays and i think there is 2 green relays to. One of the yellow relays is for the engine ecu and the other is for the fuel pump. I made sure i had 12v from the battery to the fuel pump relay. Like i said i found the switched live from the relay to the fuel pump and put a new wire in. I also kept the fuel cut off switch.and like i said i drilled a hole in the spare wheel well and used a bolt and 2 nuts for the earth.

PJ did pretty much the same for me - only thing was he used mega wire from a sound system to ensure conductivity - direct from the battery with fuse mounted next to it. The existing system is sent to a relay in the boot, mounted by the jack - so it effectively just acts as a switch for the new wires.

Earth is a short wire and bolted to the body as well.

Works ace and its easy to spot any potential probs

I have a big turbo escort, are the relays in the same position on my car or is it a different loom ?

The relay in the drawing is a NEW relay, nothing to do with the ones on the car. All that happens is the existing wiring triggers the new relay on the new wire that you have put straight to the battery positive (fused). Thus giving the fuel pump a DIRECT supply from the battery/alternator. This means it's NOT going through all the old shonky wiring / fusebox / relays which are 10-15-20 years old!!
