Front or back? Check that the rear spings are seated correctly at the top and not slipped off the collar - as they then rub against the strut housing and make a din. It might be you have to drop the car of the jack partly, seat the spring, then lower fully

No they should not themselves make a sound though will get more noise due to harshness of them but from car rattles etc.
The seats should be so shaped that when weight is placed on them by the springs they slip into position, if not you can get helper springs to keep under tension even when jacked up.

A few of my friends have had this problem on their cossies. We found the passenger side spring hits the inner arch and makes a banging/squeeking sound. No idea why its only ever the one side though

Good old ford buld quality!!
Yes quite common to hit on rear turret area, just bash with hammer to dent in, so it's a "Professional" job done.

As said, on rear bash inner wing with hammer to stop spring rubbing, make sure springs are sat properly in the top mount when car is lowered (otherwise you hear them creaking). Only noise i get is a little squeking from the shocks movement.
